About the event

For our next Open Mic Night we're excited to return to The Hibiscus Backyard of Love for a spooky and enchanted edition of Friday, the 13th. Come gather beneath the Spanish Moss and twinkling lights and listen along as local storytellers share their spin on the night's theme:

𝒻𝑜𝓁𝓀𝓁𝑜𝓇𝑒 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒻𝒶𝒾𝓇𝓎𝓉𝒶𝓁𝑒𝓈

Whether it’s a tradition (happy, neurotic or otherwise) that’s been handed from one generation to the next or a timeless tale that calls back the enchantment of bygone eras, folklore and fairytales have been shaping cultures and beliefs throughout history. Think mystery, fables, once upon a time, and consider sharing it at the event!

For those interested in taking the mic, we ask that you please email emeraldcoaststorytellers@gmail.com ahead of time to be considered for a reading spot and include your genre, a little bit about yourself, and what you plan to present. We've had a lot of requests and would like to give everyone a chance to share their stories! If there's time for extra people, we'll open the floor before our Featured Storyteller, Mary Alayne Long.

Looking to get the fun started early? Get in the spirit and join the Hibiscus crew at 5:00 in the Backyard of Love for a free pumpkin carving contest and happy hour to kick off the night! Stories will begin at 6:00.

About Mary Alayne Long:

Mary Alayne Long, otherwise known as The Alabama Housewife, is a Southern humorist, storyteller, and writer who loves to make people laugh—and think—with the stories she shares. Mary Alayne focuses on authentic, real-life moments and takes care (especially in her social media spaces) to encourage rather than influence others. She and her husband Rick make their home in Point Washington where they enjoy cooking, spending time outdoors and visits from their children Jake and Sadie Sue.
